The subject of the contract is the preparation of project documentation, including construction design for the whole project involving the modernization and expansion of the Solid Waste Treatment Plant in Warsaw, meeting the requirements of Best Available Techniques (BAT) in the field of designing installations for thermal treatment of municipal waste together with the installations.

Project description

It will be the largest municipal waste incineration plant in Poland, which after reconstruction will reach capacity of approx. 305 thousand tons of waste per year.

Sweco will design two new process lines, with a capacity of 17 t/h for each line and availability equal to 7800 h/year for each line, sorting facility with the capacity of 10 000 t/year operating on one-shift and 30 000 t/year when operating during two or even three shifts. . Estimates of energy recovery from thermal treatment of waste by new lines is approx. 148 200 MWh/year for electricity and in case of co-generation approx. 101 400 MWh/year of electricity and 195 000 MWh/year of thermal energy.

The Project aims at meeting Polish and European standards and environmental standards concerning waste management. This will facilitate the improvement of the environmental conditions, recovery levels and the amount of waste permitted for disposal in accordance with national and international standards (mainly Directive 99/31/ EC), which will contribute to:

  • the reduction in weight and volume of waste deposited in landfills,
  • a significant elimination of waste disposal in the raw state,
  • rational increase in recovering raw materials,
  • obtaining "green energy" produced in the co-generation process from municipal waste incineration,

and indirectly to:

  • efficient management of landfills,
  • reduction of environmental threats caused by landfills.
